Staff Experience
Consulting To Wood Products Manufacturers

A. G. Raymond & Company was founded in 1981. Before and since then, Art Raymond has spent more than 40 years advising and counseling firms in the furniture, cabinet, millwork, and other value-added wood products industry around the world. His experience covers the full spectrum of manufacturing operations – strategy, plant design, process design and improvement. Areas of specialization cover the full spectrum of operations including manufacturing strategy, plant design and layout, process design and improvement, lean manufacturing, and manufacturing management systems such as production/inventory control.

In addition Art has assisted clients in conducting due diligence for acquisitions and provided expert testimony in support of litigation.

Art graduated from North Carolina State University in 1969 with a B.S. in wood technology and studied economics and management at the graduate level. He guest lectures as an adjunct professor in his alma mater’s furniture and wood products program.

He writes a quarterly column for FDM, a leading industry magazine; a bi-monthly column for the Wood Machinery Manufacturers of America’s The Cutting Edge newsletter; and the TrendTracker Report for the Hardwood Manufacturers Association, an annual review of the economic situation in the key hardwood using industries. In addition he speaks regularly for industry groups such as the American Home Furnishings Alliance and the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association; at events like the Woodworking Industry Conference; and at trade shows such as the International Woodworking Fair.

Project teams are assembled to create solutions that combine the wide vision of the generalist with the eye of a specialist. The result is a well-conceived response that considers both the client’s daily operating problems and longer-range strategy.

On facilities-related projects we utilize the services of associated engineering specialists in mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, and construction budgeting to complement our experience.

For engagements with a marketing, financial, or information system element, we work with allied firms and specialists in the required disciplines.
